Boland and Smith Medal Round 6 Update

With six rounds now complete in the Vawdon Cup, voting for the prestigious Boland and Smith Medal’s has gone behind closed doors. The Medals are named after two of the legends of the game, Mark Boland and Karen Smith and reward the best and fairest players in both the Men’s and Women’s Premier League during the season.

Votes are awarded on each game in a 3, 2, 1 manner and the Medal count takes place at the NSWTA Gala Blues Dinner and Awards Night on October 13, 2018, where both Mark and Karen present the medals named in their honour.

If you wish to purchase tickets to the Blues Awards, they can be purchased here.

Alternatively, you can organise the purchase of a whole table (8 People) by contacting NSW Touch Football Business Operations Manager; Kylie Hearne via kylie.hearne@nswtouch.com.au by no later than 5pm Wednesday October 4th.

As votes went silent in the Boland Medal, it is the young guns who have set an exciting pace. Jason Kazzi from the Western Suburbs Magpies and the  Central Coast Dolphins dynamic duo, Kyle Jermyn and Luke Cain who share the lead with 9 votes. However, lurking just behind these youngsters who are making a mark on the Premier League is a slew of experienced big game performers. With 3pts splitting the top nine and six rounds to go it will be interesting to see who rises to the top when the count takes place this October.

In the Smith Medal there is a talented line up all vying for the top honour. Currently it is the Magpies Patricia Michaelopolous who leads at 10, however, there are a number of top-class players hot her heels. Canterbury Bulldogs previous winner Claire Tandek is lurking as are talented youngsters, Hannah Dyball of the Manly Warringah Sea Eagles, Rachel Jeffs from Newcastle Knights and Madison Crowe of the Dolphins. Also within striking distance is the mercurial Ash Quinlan from Eastern Suburbs Roosters, so leaders will no doubt be keeping an eye on her performances over the closing rounds.
