The 28th annual Yass Knockout was held over the 23rd & 24th of January. A record number of teams (116) saw games played over two venues to ensure all games were completed on time. The local motel’s had their no-vacancy lights switched on early Friday Morning while tents at Walker Park were being set up as early as lunchtime Friday. Though the weather was wet in the lead up, the fields were prepped and the scene was set for a great weekend of Touch Football.  Tournament director Rod Wise was heard saying “The fields are built on rock and we are going ahead”.

The Pool and draw structure had ten pools for the Men’s draw, five for the Women and thirteen in the Mixed. To squeeze all 179 round games in on the Saturday play was underway at 8am much to the delight of the players camped at the fields. Throughout the day there were many closely fought encounters and some not so close, though the results didn’t take away from what was a great first day’s play in the Yass Valley. Games were done and dusted by 6pm which gave everyone plenty of time to recharge and check the Sunday’s draw which was posted prior to 7:30 pm.

Sundays games began again at 8am and the competition was fierce. The Men’s & Mixed draw was split into three different divisions (A,B&C) while the Women’s was split into two divisions (A&B). As the day went on fewer and fewer cars & tents could be seen around the fields as teams exited the competition. Teams who made the semi-finals were assured prize money though they all wanted to be crowned the 2016 Yass Knockout champions. The Final results were as follows:

  • Womens B-Grade: Doylo Grommies 3 def The Young and the Bold 2
  • Womens A-Grade: The A Team 5 def PCS 3
