Hills Hornets President, Brad Mitchell spent a lot of time on stage at Saturday night’s New South Wales Touch Association’s Blues Awards dinner at Bankstown Sports Club.

Mitchell was a deserving winner of the 2014/15 NSWTA Rod Wise Medal for Volunteer of the Year and joint winner of the Administrator of the Year award with Mudgee Touch Association’s Kathy Lang, while the Hornets were also joint winners of the Affiliate of the Year award with Manly Warringah Touch Association.

It was the second consecutive year that the Hornets have won the NSWTA Affiliate of the Year, and also secured back-to-back wins for Mitchell as Administrator of the Year, an award he shared with Wests’ Tracey Yiangou in 2014.

Mitchell was blown away with the awards, praising his committee for all of their hard work.

“It was absolutely fantastic and more than I could ever wish for and from a committee and club point of view it was fabulous, it was a great night,” Mitchell said.

“We don’t do these things for awards but to be recognised by NSW Touch and peers of the NSW Touch community, I’m lost for words, I’m absolutely stoked.”

“We are more mates than a committee, we’ve got a core group of 16 people, four executive, six directors and another six general committee. We work really well behind the scenes. We’re more friends coming together which makes it more enjoyable and I think results show that things are working at Hills.”

Touch Football in a major part of the Mitchell’s life, with Brad and wife Mel both representative players and children Zali and Baylen both involved as well.

“To say that we are a Touch family is definitely correct. Our kids just started playing the past couple of years so they are both in under 10’s now for Hills. We come home on weeknights and they just want to chuck the footy around. To see that coming through in them definitely brings a smile to my face and definitely to my wife’s face as well,” Mitchell said.
